Spring 2009

Welcome to Nexus' First Online Issue

"Crossroads!"

Like any thing that passes between people year after year, Nexus has changed since its conception. It's gotten a little roughed up in the past, and it's seen some really good days too. And because Nexus hasn't exactly been lining its coffers for the last few decades, it has been forced into a tight spot where it must evolve or die. Welcome to the new Nexus, which took too long to be born but will carry on Wright State University's literary magazine into the next technological generation. I have decided to start this rebirth off with the acknowledgment that it was not as easy to make the switch as I had hoped, nor have all the pieces been forced into place yet. At the beginning of the year, I was really gunning for being able to pay authors, but internal issues made that an impossibility. I am confident that sometime in the near future, Nexus will be able to reward its fantastic writers. Until then, it will continue its time-honored tradition of not sending out money.

This year was the only year for me, and if nothing else it was interesting. This year's staff was all new and had to learn everything about Nexus from the bottom up, which made it easier to make large scale changes but made the process of figuring out what does what more difficult. During my year as editor, I tried to lay a new groundwork for Nexus, so that it may continue to be successful and enjoyed by readers well into the future. As of next year, Max Lake will be taking over as editor. His experience and his enthusiasm will bolster Nexus and keep that literary torch burning into tomorrow.

In the meantime, keep those submissions coming in! The lifeblod of Nexus is the work of our contributors. Also, we are pleased to announce that from here on out, Nexus will once again be accepting artwork and photography submissions, so get creative! Enjoy the issue!
