The WSU Nexus is student-run. As such, we are sorry to be unable to pay for submissions.

TO SUBMIT: E-mail your prose/poetry to wsunexus.submissions@gmail.com with "SUBMISSION - <title of your story>" as the subject line. Pieces should be attached to the e-mail as .doc, .docx, or .rtf files. The body of your e-mail should consist of a simple cover letter with your name, title of your piece, word count, what type of work it is, and contact information. If your submission is accepted, we may request a small photograph to place next to the bio. Do not attach the photograph to your submission.

All submissions should be in standard manuscript format. Follow the guidelines here. You greatly hurt your chances of publication if you do not follow that format.

Please hold all inquiries for six weeks after you submit.

Short fiction is our bread and butter. Literary stories with genre elements are okay. We feel that some of the best fiction coming out today blurs the line between genre and literary fiction. While we are not interested in your zombie/vampire/werewolf love story we aren’t interested in your patriarch-dies-of-cancer tear-jerker either. We like engaging work; please keep us interested after the first 300 words. Stories should be between 2,000 and 6,000 words. We accept three to four short stories every issue.

Flash fiction should be exciting. We like new and unique work that grabs us and shakes us like a bad nanny. Flash fiction should be under 2,000 words, so make those words count. We publish up to five flash fiction pieces every issue.

We like new ideas when it comes to poetry. Poems have been around for quite some time, and we'd like to be a little surprised. We'll read everything that comes in, but we take special interest in unique works. We publish up to six poems an issue. Poems should not exceed two pages but can take liberties with typographical orientation.

Artwork and Photography

We want your outstanding visual artistry in our bellies. If your snapshot of your dog getting a haircut is more interesting than everyone else's majestic sunset, you're getting the nod. We publish up to ten examples of photography and artwork per issue. Artwork and photographs should be submitted in .tif, .png, .jpg, or .gif; .tif and .png are preferred. Please send the highest possible resolution. Submissions should be at minimum 150ppi. There are no minimum width or height requirements, but if you want your artwork displayed in full, glorious, technicolor detail, please don't send a 75x75px thumbnail.
